Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Large Amount of Methamphetamine, Deputies Being Obstructed, Drug Trafficking Charges

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

At about 2:40pm today (February 28), a deputy sheriff stopped a suspicious Honda Civic automobile on Cook Road in the Resaca community. When the driver stepped out, the deputy discovered a large amount of methamphetamine on his person. When the deputy attempted to take the driver, subsequently identified as Matthew Lamar Lyn Patterson, age 26, of 510 Ryo Mountain Road, Fairmount, into custody, he (the driver) began violently resisting arrest. Other deputy sheriffs arrived on the scene within minutes and eventually subdued Patterson. Two deputies received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Patterson was booked into the county jail facing charges of Trafficking in Methamphetamine and Obstructing Peace Officers. Gordon County Jail records indicate Patterson was arrested before in 2011 and 2014, on unrelated charges.
