Crash On Interstate 75 Causes Traffic Problems
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
At about 9am this morning (May 6), a crash on Interstate 75S south of Calhoun caused a shutdown of all southbound Interstate traffic. As a result, Calhoun and Gordon County was inundated with thousands of motorists seeking a detour around the closure. At 2:30pm, two of the Southbound lanes were reopened with the outer lane still closed. Traffic is moving again and state highways and secondary roads are clearing. Although there was congestion in several areas, mostly due to a high volume of tractor-trailer traffic, no other major incidents were reported and travel is returning to normal.
In an unrelated incident, a large GDOT directional sign on State Route 136 in Resaca near the Intersection with Interstate 75 has been damaged by high winds and has necessitated the closure of the westbound (State Route 136) lane at that location. GDOT has been summoned to repair the sign.
