Sheriff Reflects on 9 – 11 Patriot Day
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
“We pause today to reflect on that terrible time that changed the world sixteen years ago. On that awful day, our country was attacked by foreign terrorists intent on destroying our way of life. Among the thousands of innocent Americans who lost their lives that day were over 400 public safety employees: police officers, firefighters, and emergency medics. These courageous men and women made the ultimate sacrifice so that others might live. Today, peace officers of all descriptions, fire/rescue personnel, and emergency medical personnel stand ready to make that same sacrifice in the face of danger, whether that danger be terrorism, crime, or natural disaster. We are particularly reminded of this duty and sacrifice in the recent cataclysmic weather which has caused so much destruction and suffering in Texas, and now in Florida. As recently as yesterday, two deputy sheriffs were killed in south Florida while protecting their community. Sadly, we read almost daily of officers laying down their lives for the people they serve, in the most tragic of circumstances. We should never allow these events to become routine, or numb ourselves to the loss of these brave people who serve others. Also, we should not allow their ultimate sacrifice to be overshadowed by those who would exploit tragedy for unworthy reasons. It is people like those who died in the service of others on September 11, 2001 who make this nation great. It is Almighty God who allows us to be the nation that leads the world. We should pray for His blessing and pray for all the families in our country who’ve suffered loss. Today, please remember all those who have served their country, their states, and their communities, as well as those who continue to serve. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they face each danger, and honor their service. May God Bless America, and May God Bless you all.”
