Automobile Pursuit Begins in Resaca, Ends in Fairmount With Arrest of Tennessee Man, ‘Nitro’
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
At about 6am Sunday morning, June 7th, a deputy sheriff on patrol near Resaca detected an Arkansas vehicle travelling in excess of 90 miles per hour on Interstate 75. When the deputy tried to stop the car, the driver fled away at a high rate of speed with the deputy in pursuit. The Arkansas car left the Interstate onto US Highway 41 and fled through Calhoun, recklessly disregarding traffic lights and stop signs. Calhoun City Police officers assisted deputies as the chase went through Calhoun. The offender continued fleeing on Highway 41 onto State Route 53 (Fairmount Highway), still travelling with reckless disregard for other motorists, at times on the wrong side of the road. The driver continued to attempt to escape and evade the officers all the way to the city limits of Fairmount, where Fairmount police had deployed ‘stop stick’ tire deflation devices. There, the vehicle came to a stop and the driver and 2 passengers were all removed from the car without further incident. The driver, identified as one Anthony Nitro Taylor, age 18, of 109 Winstead Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Fleeing/Attempting to Elude Officers(Felony), Reckless Driving, Speeding, and a host of other traffic-related offenses. The passengers, identified as Douglas Franklin Seivers, age 18, of 1401 Hanna Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, as was Brandon Lee Houck, age 19, of 5419 Bland Lane, Knoxville, Tennessee, (also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine). Taylor and his co-defendants remain in the county jail pending bond.
