Chief Deputy Guest Speaker at Sonoraville Cub Scouts Meeting

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

Thursday evening (March 14), Chief Deputy Robert Paris served as guest speaker for the Cub Scout Pack 46 meeting at Farmville Methodist Church. Chief Deputy Paris addressed a group of 17 Scouts, speaking about local government, safety, and his own scouting experience growing up in the Sonoraville community in the early 1970s. The Pack 46 Cub Scouts posed a wide range of questions about the Office of Sheriff, the involvement of deputies in the communities and schools, as well as camping, and woodcraft. Chief Deputy Paris, one of the first two Eagle Scouts from Troop 46, spoke about the many changes in the Scouting Program over a span of 50 years. Although the uniforms and other aspects of the program may have changed and evolved, the principles of responsibility, ethical conduct, good citizenship, and stewardship of the environment remain instilled into Scouts. Sheriff Ralston thanked Scoutmaster Tony Watson for the opportunity for his staff to interact with the local Scouts.
