Deputies Respond to Aircraft Accident
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
At about 8 p.m. this evening (May 4th) deputy sheriffs were dispatched to private property in a rural area near McDaniel Station/Darby Road in southern Gordon County in response to a report of an aircraft accident. Deputies arrived within 9 minutes and discovered the wreckage of a small ‘gyrocopter’ rotary-wing aircraft in an open field. Gordon County fire/rescue and emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene. The pilot had been taken to the local hospital by private vehicle, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the crash has not been determined. Deputies notified the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) who will conduct an investigation of the accident.
