Friday, September 11, 2020

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

At approximately 10:50am today (September 11), deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a the “Flying ‘J'” truckstop in Resaca in response to the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival minutes later, a female individual told the deputies that she’d had a disagreement with her ex-husband, who’d ran into the wooded area behind the truckstop parking lot. The complainant told deputies that the man, her ex husband, had been depressed and described him as “suicidal”. The complainant also told deputies that he could be armed. The deputies searched the area behind the truckstop, which is crisscrossed with trails, and rapidly located the man who was in fact armed with a handgun. When deputies approached the man and instructed him to put down the weapon, he turned the handgun on himself and fired a shot, killing himself instantly. The man is believed to have been a resident of the Acworth area. The investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the County Coroner’s Office is continuing.
