Deputies Respond To ‘Road Rage’ Incident, Subsequent Arrest Made
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
At approximately 5:30pm today (Saturday, November 24), deputy sheriffs were dispatched to the area of Dews Pond Road east of Calhoun in response to a report of a man being threatened with a gun. Investigating deputies were told that an unidentified white/male driving a white Dodge pickup truck had approached a second driver on the roadside, after an alleged failure-to-yield-right-of-way. The driver of the white Dodge truck is reported to have fired a shot before fleeing the scene. Deputies are seeking this driver, reported to be a white/male in his mid-60s, and balding, in connection with this incident. Anyone with information is asked to notify the Sheriff’s Office.

A white, 2002-09 Dodge Ram pickup truck is being sought by the Sheriff’s Office in connection with the “road rage” incident on Saturday, November 24th on Dews Pond Road. This truck has a UGA “G” decal on the rear window, and was driven by a white/male 60-69 years old, clean shaven and balding. The driver is believed to have been armed with a small, black, semi-automatic-style handgun. If anyone has knowledge of this vehicle, please call 911 or the Sheriff’s Office 706-629-1244.

This morning (November 29) a local man turned himself in to deputy sheriffs at the Sheriff’s Office in connection with Saturday’s “road rage” incident. The investigation has revealed that this man, Steve Dillard Sr., age 62, of 2321 Dews Pond Road was the driver of the white, Dodge Ram pickup truck involved in the incident. Dillard has been charged with: Simple Assault, Aggressive Driving, and Discharging a Firearm Near a Public Roadway. He was booked into the county jail then released on bond.
