Fairmount Man Arrested, Charged with Rape

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports;

At approximately 9 a.m. yesterday morning (December 5), deputy sheriffs and Sheriff’s detectives were dispatched to a private residence on Gillespie Road near Fairmount in unincorporated Eastern Gordon County in response to a report of a rape. Upon arrival, deputies received a detailed description of the assailant and immediately launched a manhunt in the area. Detectives interviewed a number of material witnesses and crime scene technicians gathered physical evidence at the crime scene as the search for the offender continued through midday. At approximately 1 p.m., a detective spotted the suspect, identified as one Charles Edward Nobles, age 55, of 121 Gillespie Road, Fairmount, in a densely wooded area near the intersection of Sam Hunt Road and Fairmount Highway (SR 53). After a brief foot chase through the woods, the detective apprehended Nobles without further incident. Investigating detectives have charged Nobles, who has a criminal history and is a registered sex offender, with one (1) count of Rape. Nobles remains in the county jail pending judicial proceedings.
