Fugitive Arrested, Deputies Assaulted With Firearms
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
At approximately 11 a.m. today (November 16), several deputy sheriffs were at an RV camp on Red Bud Road near Calhoun in search of an armed suspect which had been involved in a violent incident a short time earlier today in Calhoun. In the course of searching for the suspect, who was wanted by Calhoun Police, a deputy sheriff was confronted by another man who produced a large caliber handgun. The deputy was shouting for this man to drop the weapon when he refused to do so and instead pointed the weapon at the deputy. The deputy, in fear for his life, fired two shots at this man. Both shots missed the man who then surrendered and was taken into custody without further resistance. The fugitive wanted in connection with the incident this morning was apprehended in the RV park without resistance. A third man was arrested for pointing a weapon at the deputies. This third man was arrested by other deputies. Fortunately, no officers or others were injured in this event, which is actively under investigation.
