Fugitive Flees From Deputies, Crashes into House, Tree
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
At approximately 8 a.m. yesterday morning (October 3), deputy sheriffs were in the Blackwood community near Calhoun searching for a fugitive wanted on a methamphetamine as well as traffic related charges. A deputy sheriff saw this individual leaving a home in a pickup truck at a high rate of speed and gave chase. The fugitive driver, Buren Nicholas Poole, a/k/a “Nick” Poole, age 28, of 107 Creekview Drive, Calhoun, speed away for about 150 yards before losing control, careening off a private residence and then crashing into a tree. Poole, as well as a female accomplice, scrambled out of the badly damaged truck and fled on foot. Poole was quickly apprehended by deputy sheriffs and state troopers, who’d responded to assist in the pursuit. Poole’s companion was not arrested. Poole was booked into the county jail on new charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule II Narcotics, Obstruction of Officers, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Officers, and a number of other traffic related charges. He will also face the original charges pending judicial proceedings. Poole is currently on parole for a previous theft related conviction in Gordon County.
