Fugitive Leads Deputies on Pursuit Across County
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports;
At about 5:45pm yesterday (June 4th), a deputy sheriff attempted to stop a suspicious Volkswagen (VW) automobile on US Highway 41 near Resaca. The vehicle fled away at a high rate of speed and a pursuit ensued. Deputies chased the VW on Interstate 75 to State Route 225, through the Pine Chapel and Red Bud communities, into the Cash community, through the Covington Bridge area, and finally along Mount Olive Road. The driver of the VW operated his vehicle recklessly, with total disregard for other motorists, driving on the wrong side of the road and at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour on two lane roadways. Deputies were joined in the pursuit by state troopers from the local State Patrol post. Near the intersection of Mount Olive Road and State Route 53 east of Sonoraville, the VW left the roadway, travelling through fields and yards in a residential area. The VW smashed through a fence into a pasture before losing engine parts and coming to a stop. The driver, subsequently identified as one JOSHUA RAY HALL, age 34, of 1410 US 41 North, Calhoun, attempted to flee further on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies and troopers. Deputies discovered a female companion, and a 15 year old juvenile who’d been reported missing from a neighboring jurisdiction inside the VW after it came to a stop. Further investigation revealed an outstanding warrant for HALL’S arrest for failing to appear in Superior Court to answer charges of (felony) Aggravated Assault. HALL is in jail yet again, charged with (felony) Fleeing/Eluding Officers, Driving with Revoked License, Reckless Driving, Speeding, and a host of other traffic related offenses, in addition to failure to appear.
