HAZARDOUS WEATHER ANTICIPATED
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed Gordon County along with most of Northern and Central Georgia under a Winter Storm Warning. Up to 6 inches of snow and/or ice is anticipated in addition to the 4 inches which has already fallen. This will create treacherous driving conditions, and power outages are also possible. Our command officers are continuously monitoring the rapidly evolving weather situation, and additional manpower has been deployed for the duration of the emergency. Deputies are patrolling in marked, four-wheel-drive units furnished with storm-specific emergency equipment. We urge everyone to avoid traveling on hazardous roadways unless absolutely necessary, and to use caution with alternative heating sources. Our Chaplaincy Unit has designated churches on standby for emergency shelters as needed. The public should monitor media outlets or the NWS for updated weather reports.
