Manhunt Ends With Automobile Chase, Crash on Gee Road Saturday Night
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
On Saturday afternoon (June 29), acting on a tip from a third party, deputy sheriffs were involved in a manhunt for a fugitive being sought in connection with outstanding arrest warrants from a neighboring jurisdiction. The fugitive was believed to have been staying at a local motel, and from the motel led officers on a 7 hour manhunt that ended when a car he is believed to have stolen crashed into a tree while being pursued by deputy sheriffs and state troopers on Gee Road. The fugitive was subsequently hospitalized for injuries received in the crash, and was transferred to an Atlanta area hospital where he remains. Sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant at the man’s motel room and recovered several boxes of evidence. The events surrounding this case are still being actively investigated, and more information will be forthcoming when it becomes available.
This investigation is not related to the arrest of a fugitive murder suspect from California effected by the Calhoun Police in Calhoun on June 29.
