Plainville Man Arrested for Financial Transaction Card Theft, Fraud

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

On Monday, October 8, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of fraud involving multiple financial card transactions at a variety of businesses in Gordon County. Detectives initiated an investigation which led to the arrest of Zachary Steve Burgess, age 26, of Plainville. Detectives collected evidence which indicated that Burgess used a stolen financial card to conduct 8 fraudulent transactions. The card was reported stolen from a victim with a reported disability. The amount of the transactions was several hundred dollars in currency and merchandise. Burgess turned himself in to detectives on Wednesday, October 10. He has been charged with 8 counts of Financial Transaction Card Fraud, 1 count of Theft of a Financial Transaction Card, and 1 count of Financial Abuse of a Disabled Adult. He is in jail pending bond.
