GEORGIA DOT ALERT: ONE LANE OF I-75 NORTH NEAR 320 IN GORDON COUNTY WILL BE CLOSED WEDNESDAY. Weather permitting, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will close the right northbound lane of I-75 on Wednesday, November 13 to repair the guardrail. Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through the area.
WHEN: Wednesday, November 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
WHERE: The right northbound lane of I-75 will be closed near milepost 320
Advisory: Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. SHERIFF RECOGNIZES RETIRING DEPUTY…
Today (November 11), Sheriff Mitch Ralston recognized retiring Deputy G. Daniel Sheriff with a Distinguished Service Award. Sheriff has served as a jailor, a jail supervisor, and a deputy since 2008. Ralston characterized Daniel as dependable and as having an exemplary work ethic.

Today (Oct 30), Sheriff Mitch Ralston presented Mr. Ronnie Reeves with a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of Reeves’ 11 years of dedicated service in the Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Reeves administered the Community Beautification Program and his citation commended his work in ”improving the quality of life here in Gordon County”. Sheriff Ralston complimented Reeves and said that
he would be greatly missed.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER ARRESTED FOR SIMPLE BATTERY AGAINST STUDENT…
At approximately 9am today (October 25) GCSO received a report from the administration at Swain Elementary School of a physical incident involving a fourth grade student and a substitute teacher. Deputies from the Sheriff’s School Resource Officers Unit immediately initiated an investigation into the matter. As a result of the investigation, Olivia Forrest, age 22, of Calhoun was arrested and charged with one count of Simple Battery, and one count of Disruption of a Public School. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

Deputy Sheriff, State Trooper, Rescue Man Pinned Underneath Car:
At about 3:45pm this afternoon (October 11), a deputy sheriff was dispatched to a private residence on Brown Way in response to a report of a man being pinned underneath a car. The deputy was joined by a nearby state trooper. The officers arrived minutes later to find the man under a car which had fallen off a jack as the victim was working on it. The two officers swiftly used a jack to lift the car off the injured man, who was subsequently removed from the scene by ambulance.

Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight: Officer Charles Mazariegos, Badge #093
As one of the first officers of Hispanic heritage hired by the Cobb County Police Department, Officer Mazariegos began his service on June 1, 1973, and retired after 35 years on December 31, 2008.
Throughout his time with Cobb County, Officer Mazariegos served in multiple roles, starting in Uniform Patrol before transitioning to the Detective Bureau in 1980, where he worked Property and Person's Crimes. He also took on roles in Internal Affairs and served as the department's Recruiter, helping hire future officers.
Even after retiring from Cobb County Police, Officer Mazariegos' dedication to public service didn't end. He continued his lifelong career of service by joining the Gordon County Sheriff's Office, where he now serves as a Detective.
Thank you, Detective Mazariegos, for your years of service to Cobb County and continued dedication and service in law enforcement.

SHERIFF RECOGNIZES DEPUTIES FOR LIFESAVING:
Today, October 9, Sheriff Mitch Ralston recognized Deputy Ben Turner and Deputy Brody Lackey for their life saving actions on September 26 when they administered the antidote ‘Narcan’ to the unconscious victim of a drug overdose. The deputies had discovered the victim inside a car in a church parking lot while patrolling late at night. Sheriff Ralston presented the deputies each with a Distinguished Service Medal, and said that their professionalism and swift actions were instrumental in saving a human life.
