Winter Storm Warning
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Announces:
“The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City has issued a Winter Storm WARNING for most of Northern Georgia, including Gordon County, from 10 a.m. Wednesday morning (February 25th) through 10 a.m. Thursday morning (February 26th). Accumulations from 2 -4 inches are possible, with up to 6 inches in higher elevations. Roadways here may become treacherous and/or impassable, and power outages are possible. Citizens should be prepared for this storm, and have an emergency plan to keep warm and have extra necessary items on hand. Residents should be aware of their neighbors, and notify my Office through E911 to check on the elderly or shut-ins. My Office has emergency operational plans in place for winter storm situations, and my command staff continues to monitor weather conditions as they develop along with Gordon County EMA Director Richard Cooper. Deputies will be patrolling in (fully marked) storm-ready 4WD vehicles, and extra personnel will be deployed for the duration of the event. Residents are also urged to monitor the NWS and local media outlets to keep aware of the situation.”
UPDATE: Winter Storm REMUS…9 a.m., Thursday, February 26th, 2015…
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports: “The winter storm which impacted Gordon County and most of northern Georgia yesterday evening and last night left us a beautiful snowfall, but it has also left our roadways in a very hazardous condition. I deployed extra deputies yesterday in anticipation of the storm, and we worked throughout the night responding to emergency calls which included a number of automobile accidents. My command personnel have worked closely with Gordon County Emergency Management, Fire/Rescue, and EMS to ensure the delivery of services during this weather event. The County DOT has worked diligently in clearing county roadways. I will keep extra personnel patrolling in storm-ready 4WD vehicles until conditions return to normal. Although the road situation has improved somewhat this morning with most roadways being passable, surfaces are still treacherous, and motorists are urged to use extreme caution if travel is necessary.”
