Pursuit Ends in Crash, Fatality

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

At approximately 11 p.m. last night (Sunday), deputy sheriffs who’d responded to an alarm call at a local business in the Scottsville Community on State Route 53 West observed a suspicious motorcycle travelling on the highway. The motorcycle had no tail lights and no license plate. When a deputy attempted to stop the motorcycle, it raced away at a high rate of speed. The deputies pursued the motorcycle eastward and into Calhoun. The motorcyclist continued fleeing from the deputies until he crashed near the intersection of Court Street / River Street. The driver of the motorcycle was killed in the crash. No other motorists or bystanders were involved, and no officers were injured. The crash is being investigated by troopers from the local State Patrol Post 43. The identification of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
