Pursuit on Interstate 75 Ends in Bartow County, Stolen Property Recovered
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports;
At approximately 7:30 a.m. today (Feb 20), a deputy sheriff on Interstate 75 (South Bound) observed a late model Mercedes Benz automobile travelling in excess of 125 miles per hour. The deputy immediately gave chase and was quickly joined by other deputy sheriffs in the pursuit, which continued at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour. The suspect vehicle crashed near mile post 302 near Adairsville in northern Bartow County. Three (3) male individuals fled from the crash on foot. Deputies, state troopers, and police from Adairsville searched the area but did not locate any of the occupants. Deputies determined that the car had been reported stolen in Doraville, Georgia in 2015. A search of the automobile’s interior revealed a large quantity of stolen electronics valued at several thousands of dollars, as well as gloves, masks, and burglary tools. Investigating detectives believe that the stolen electronics were taken in a commercial burglary in Chattanooga, Tennessee last night, and will be returned to the rightful owners. Articles of physical evidence which may help in the identification of the perpetrators were recovered near the crash scene. Detectives are continuing to follow leads in connection with this case.
