PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT…

Monday, March 19, 2018     3 p.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has predicted that northwest Georgia will be impacted by severe weather this evening through tonight. Conditions may include thunderstorms with dangerous lightning, high winds, large hail and the possibility of tornadoes. Sheriff Ralston has deployed extra deputies in special purpose ‘storm ready’ 4WD vehicles throughout the county, with additional personnel on standby. The Sheriff’s Office is coordinating closely with our public safety partners, and Sheriff’s Office command staff are monitoring the situation continuously. Sheriff Ralston urges citizens to monitor evolving weather conditions via the National Weather Service and commercial media outlets throughout the evening into tonight.

Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the formation of a tornado.

A Tornado Warning means that a tornado has been detected and persons should seek shelter immediately.

The leading edge of the storm front has arrived in our area, bringing thunderstorms with winds and heavy rain.  Extra deputies are patrolling throughout the county tonight, and we continue to coordinate with our public safety colleagues. A tornado watch is in effect for Gordon County until 4 a.m.. Citizens should continue to monitor the rapidly evolving weather situation via the NWS and commercial media outlets.
