Sheriff Enters Partnership for Jail Staff Training

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

Sheriff Mitch Ralston has entered a partnership with the National Institute for Jail Operations (NIJO) to provide standardized, up to date training for the jail staff. NIJO is a nationwide organization which provides state of the art instruction for jail administrators, line supervisors, administrative personnel, and front line jail staff members. NIJO will be providing internet based training online which will allow the jail staff to meet and exceed their mandated training requirements. Sheriff Ralston is the first sheriff to require jail staff to undergo annual in-service training as a requirement for continued employment. All training is approved by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Council, where Sheriff Ralston serves as a member of the Training Committee.

Recently, Jail Administrator Major Pat Bedford and Division Commander Captain Dylan Nicholas completed the NIJO Academy training in Salt Lake City, Utah. This training concentrated on all aspects of jail operations, with a focus on administrative duties, liability, and other issues confronting jails and jail staffs today.
