Sheriff Warns of Recurring Telephone Scams
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
Several Gordon County residents have reported telephone contacts from callers posing as deputies attempting to collect bogus fines and fees. The caller will provide a false name, such as “Sergeant King, badge number 9391′, and tell the resident that he or she “owes a fine” and/or “has a warrant” for “non-payment” or (often) “for missing jury duty” . The Sheriff’s Office does not collect fines, and never solicits funds via telephone for any reason. Additionally, a statewide judicial emergency was declared months ago and is still in effect, postponing or prohibiting grand juries and jury trials. Sheriff Ralston urges everyone to be aware of such telephone scams, and to never provide personal or financial information to any unknown caller.
