Beware of Telephone Scammers Posing as Deputies

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Announces:

The Sheriff’s Office has received a number of complaints about a telephone scam wherein the callers claim to be deputy sheriffs. The scammers accuse the person answering of missing jury duty. Some calls have originated from 706-629-3337, and the scammers have used the names, “Deputy Waverley” and/or “Lieutenant Wakefield”. These callers are NOT  deputy sheriffs and the Sheriff’s Office NEVER solicits fines by telephone. Jury summonses are sent by mail or hand delivered. DO NOT give these callers any personal or financial information, or discuss meetings. JUST HANG UP the telephone. Regardless of the conversation, 706-629-3337 is NOT a Sheriff’s Office number. Detectives have been assigned to search for the true origin of the calls, which are usually cloned, are placed from overseas, or from within the prison system.
