Sheriff’s Auxiliary Hosts 5th Annual Kids’ Football Clinic

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Announces:

On Saturday, July 26th, Sheriff Mitch Ralston and the Gordon County Sheriff’s Auxiliary hosted it’s fifth annual Football Clinic for kids ages 6 through 12. The event was from 9am through 1pm at the Calhoun City Recreation Department Field on McDaniel Station Road. A number of local football coaches and instructors helped with the clinic, including long-time rec coach and referee Ronnie Reeves,  Sonoraville High School head coach Jim Kramer, Calhoun Middle School head coach Eric Rigney, recreation league coach and Clerk of Superior Court Grant Walraven, former Clemson University lineman Reid Ingle, former UTC linebacker Alex Kirby, and former 4 time all-pro Atlanta Falcon and current deputy sheriff Elbert Shelley. The guest coaches instructed over 30 participants in punting, passing, kicking, blocking, speed and agility, and the general rules of football. The instructors also joined Sheriff Ralston in speaking to all the kids about life values and reaching their goals. Proceeds from the event will benefit charities sponsored by the Auxiliary which include ‘The Winners Club’ and also less fortunate families in our community during the Christmas season. The Sheriff’s Auxiliary was formed by Sheriff Ralston in 2009, and is composed entirely of volunteer, community-minded citizens. The Auxiliary’s mission statement defines it’s purpose of supporting the Office of Sheriff, the Sheriff’s staff, and the needs of our community as a whole.
