Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
On Tuesday afternoon, October 22, Sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant at 758 Mount Olive Church Road near the Fairmount community in eastern Gordon County. There, the detectives found an indoor marijuana cultivation operation consisting of over 50 live plants, potting soil, growing containers, fertilizer and other chemicals, incandescent lights, electronic timers, and hand tools. The plants were being grown inside an outbuilding near a private residence. The owner was not at home at the time of the execution of the warrant. The evidence was collected from the scene by the investigating officers and crime scene technicians, and it is believed that the unharvested marijuana had a “street” value of over $125,000. Arrest warrants have been issued for Hershell Kane Mulkey, age 34, of 758 Mount Olive Church Road, charging him with ‘Manufacturing Marijuana‘ and related offenses. Investigating detectives do not know if Mulkey has a background in either botany or agriculture. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is urged to call the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office at 706.629.1244 or 706.879.5486.
