RANGER MAN ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, TERRORISTIC THREATS,
Tuesday, January 14, 2025
From Sheriff Mitch Ralston:
On Sunday night (January 12), deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a home on Knight Road in the Ranger community in response to a report of an assault. Initiating an investigation, deputies discovered the victim, a 39 year old woman, had been badly beaten about her face and head with a blunt instrument. The woman identified her domestic partner as her attacker. He had fled the scene before deputies arrived. The officers removed the victim and her children from the scene to a safe place, and then began searching for the suspect. Yesterday morning (January 13), deputies found the suspect, identified as one Jeffery Scott McCullough, age 36, of Ranger hiding out at the residence of a third party. He was apprehended without incident, charged with Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, and Cruelty to Children (3rd degree). An acquaintance of McCullough’s, identified as on Joshua O. Grizzle, age 36, of Ranger, was arrested along with McCullough for aiding and abetting McCullough in his efforts to elude law enforcement officers. DEPUTIES END DANGEROUS PURSUIT
Monday, January 13, 2025
From Sheriff Mitch Ralston:
At about 10:40pm last night (January 12) a deputy sheriff on patrol observed a Chevy Silverado pickup traveling south on Belwood Road at a high rate of speed, over 80mph in a 35mph zone. When the deputy attempted to stop the truck, the driver sped away at an even higher speed. The deputy pursued the truck on Belwood Road and watched as it hazardously ran trough two red lights. The pursuit continued onto State Route 53 with speeds in excess of 100mph. The fleeing suspect passed other vehicles on curves and on double yellow lines. Near the intersection of SR 53 and Yarborough Mill Road , due to the extreme recklessness of the fleeing driver, deputies used the PIT maneuver to end the chase. The suspect automobile crashed. The driver sustained injuries and was removed from the scene by ambulance. There were no injuries to officers or innocent bystanders. Upon being released from the hospital, the driver will face charges of DUI, Fleeing/Eluding Officers, Reckless Driving, and a variety of other violations.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
9am Saturday, January 11, 2025
From Sheriff Mitch Ralston:
Gordon County roadways continue to be affected by winter weather conditions. Traffic is moving at near normal on Interstate 75. While State Routes are largely traversable, there are still significant patches of ice/slush, particularly in low lying and/or shaded areas. Deputies report dangerous icing on bridges. Secondary roads are mostly passable, but remain treacherous, again, particularly in low lying and/or shaded areas. Temperatures are expected to drop today and tonight, which will enhance the chances of the slush re-freezing. Motorists choosing to travel should still proceed with extreme caution.
I have kept extra deputies deployed around the clock.
Tonight is expected to be much colder, and we will provide transportation to warming shelters to anyone in need.
