Jail Division
The Jail Division is responsible for the safe and secure operation of the county jail and the inmate occupants, and to maintain the required records of incarcerated persons.
The current Gordon County Jail is a modern detention facility opened in May of 2009. The 81,000 square foot facility has the capacity to house 376 inmates. The Jail houses both male and female inmates charged with any criminal offense that occurs within Gordon County including the cities of Calhoun, Fairmount, and Resaca. This includes both pre-trial and convicted persons.
The mission of the Jail is to provide a safe and secure environment for both the citizens of Gordon County and inmates by adhering to Federal and State laws and standards.

Bonding
A bond is a financial guarantee to assure a defendant’s appearance in court. The defendant must appear in court unless otherwise directed by a Judge of the appropriate court. The Gordon County Jail accepts the following types of bonds:
Cash Bond
A cash bond may be posted by anyone. A cash bond requires cash (U.S. currency only) in the full amount of the bond. The cash amount must be exact, the Jail cannot make change. All cash bonds are forwarded to the clerk of the court the defendant must make an appearance in. The return of cash bonds is handled by the appropriate court clerk when the case is completed in court. In addition a cash bond fee of $20.00 (U.S. currency, must be exact change) must be posted for each person being bonded out of the Gordon County Jail in accordance to State law.
Note: The Gordon County Jail does not accept cash bonds for Calhoun City cases. The cash bond must be paid at the City of Calhoun Municipal Court.
Property Bond
A property bond may be posted by individuals who own property within Gordon County with an assessment value equal to or exceeding the amount of the bond. A search of the Gordon County Tax Office records will be completed to verify the property owners, property value, and that the taxes are paid up to date. All persons listed as owners must be present and sign the property bond. In the event the records system is off line, the property owners will be required to bring tax records to the Jail as provided by the Gordon County Tax Office. Persons cannot use the same property to be on multiple bonds at the same time. No property owned by or co-owned by the person in Jail can be used to post that person’s bond. In addition a cash bond fee of $20.00 (U.S. currency, must be exact change) must be posted for each person being bonded out of the Gordon County Jail in accordance to State law.
Transfer Bond
A transfer bond is a property bond signed by individuals who own property in another county in Georgia. A transfer bond must be signed at the Sheriff’s Office where the property is located. The individuals signing the transfer bond must return the bond to the Gordon County Jail in a sealed envelope from the Sheriff’s Department where the bond was signed. Gordon County residents may complete a transfer bond at the Gordon County Jail to bond a person out of another Jail in Georgia. In addition a cash bond fee of $20.00 (U.S. currency, must be exact change) must be posted for each person being bonded out of the Gordon County Jail in accordance to State law. Professional Bonding Companies
Inmates may secure the services of a professional bonding company as a surety on their bond. No professional bonding companies except those approved by the Sheriff may write bonds at the Gordon County Jail. The approved bonding companies may only write bonds returnable to Courts within Gordon County. Individuals hiring a bonding company pay a fee to the bonding company for their services. Employees of the Gordon County Jail cannot recommend a bonding company or discuss the service fees charged by the bonding company.

First Appearance Hearings
All persons admitted into the Gordon County Jail are brought before a judicial officer for the purpose of a First Appearance Hearing in accordance with applicable law. First Appearance Hearings are held Monday thru Friday at approximately 2:00 p.m. and on weekends or any other times as designated by the Magistrate Judge. Bonds and Bond Conditions are set at this time. First Appearance Hearings are conducted via video from the Jail Courtroom and are viewable in the Jail Lobby at the scheduled times.
Visitation
The Gordon County Jail provides remote visitation via internet thru JailATM. Each inmate may have 4 remote visitation sessions daily. On site visitation is limited to 1 per week and hours are limited. All visitations (remote and on-site) are over video monitor. No in-person contact visitation is permitted. In Person Visitor Rules
1. Visitors 18 years of age or older must show photo identification.
2. Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult, parent or guardian.
3. The number of persons visiting an inmate at one time is limited to 3.
4. Visitors must be appropriately dressed.
5. Food and / or drinks are not allowed in the Visitation Room.
6. Visitors are not to be loud, profane, disorderly or disruptive in their speech and / or conduct.

Commissary
An inmate commissary service is provided by Legacy Commissary Services. Inmates may purchase items offered on the commissary menu weekly. Individuals may also place orders directly for inmates online by going to JailATM.

Inmate Funds
Upon admission to the Gordon County Jail, all currency is taken from the inmate during the booking process. This money is deposited into the Gordon County Inmate Commissary account and credited to the inmate.
Additional funds can be added to an inmate’s account online via JailATM or by utilizing the self service kiosk in the Jail Lobby.

Inmate Property Release
A current inmate’s property will not be released once it has been inventoried and sealed. Exceptions can only be made by a supervisor under necessary circumstances.
Inmates that have been transferred to the Georgia Department of Corrections can leave property for pick up by a designated person. Property will be disposed of after 30 days.
