Deputies Arrest Three for Drug Possession

Around noon yesterday (May 9) deputy sheriffs from the Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) stopped a suspicious vehicle for a traffic violation on Interstate 75 in Resaca. The vehicle stopped and pulled onto the shoulder of the road but the driver got out and ran away from the deputies into a densely wooded area between the Interstate and Highway 41. Other deputy sheriffs, as well as Calhoun (city) police officers and state troopers quickly converged on the area and surrounded it. Two other persons in the car, identified as Michael Wayne Lewis, age 36, of Clermont, Florida, and Jessica Leigh Shaw, age 34, of Chattanooga, Tennessee were both arrested without incident after a search of the car revealed methamphetamine. The Sheriff’s Air Unit coordinated an air-ground search with deputies in the wooded area for some time before the driver of the automobile, identified as Ronald E. Stiles, age 29, of Cartersville, Georgia was arrested by Sheriff’s detectives inside a nearby truck stop.
Lewis and Shaw were both charged with Possession of Methamphetamine. Stiles was charged with Driving With a Suspended License, Hindering Peace Officers, and Possession of Methamphetamine.
Sheriff Ralston thanked all of the Calhoun police officers and state troopers who aided in the search.
