Deputies Arrest Two Rome Men For Residential Burglary
Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:
At about 3:20 p.m. yesterday (May 9) a 911 call was broadcast regarding a burglary-in-progress at a private residence in the Farmville community near Sonoraville School. Hearing the radio call, two deputy sheriffs from the Sheriff’s Office’s School Resource Officer Unit (SRO) responded directly to the scene and observed two men fitting the description of the burglars fleeing on foot across a nearby pasture. The deputies quickly apprehended the two, identified as Jorge Luis Nava, age 17, and Michael Martinez, age 17, both of Rome, Georgia. Deputies discovered stolen property (jewelry and other items) in the pockets of one of the men.
One of the SRO deputies, Elbert Shelley, is a former 4 time all-pro Atlanta Falcon. Deputy Shelley is described by his superior officers as being a “strong runner”.
Both defendants were charged with Burglary in the First Degree.
