Resaca Man Arrested For Trafficking in Methamphetamine

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

At about 10pm, Thursday night, September 21, a deputy sheriff on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of State Route 225 and State Route 136 in Nickelsville. The deputy stopped this automobile and questioned the driver, subsequently identified as one Mitchell McCoy Dutton, age 43, of Sexton Road, Resaca. After determining that Dutton’s drivers license was suspended and that he was on parole for a previous drug conviction in Gordon County, deputies searched Dutton’s car. Their search revealed over one and one-half pounds of methamphetamine. McCoy was arrested and jailed without incident. He has been charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine and related offenses. Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the origin of the large drug shipment, as well as the probable destination, and more arrests are possible. Dutton was convicted of Sale of Methamphetamine in Gordon County Superior Court in 2013 (Indictment #24298) and received a sentence of 15 years, He has been incarcerated in the Gordon County Jail on at least four previous occasions since 2011 (Inmate #15303 2011-2023).
