State of Emergency for Gordon County

State of Emergency Declared Following Tornado in Gordon County Gordon County was struck by at least 1 large-path tornado before noon today. There is widespread and very serious damage. Many structures have been damaged and destroyed, power lines are down along with trees, and many roadways are closed. Utilities have been interrupted. A state of emergency has been declared for Gordon County beginning at 3pm today which will continue until safety and services have been restored. The affected areas include: FarmVille, Sonoraville” Boone Ford, Trimble Hollow, Erwin Hill, and Plainview. Non-emergency traffic in these areas will be prohibited. There is still real and significant danger from downed power lines and debris. State and local emergency services and have been deployed in all of the affacted areas for the duration of the emergency. Citizens SHOULD NOTattempt to travel into the affected areas, and avoid areas with debris and damaged power lines. Eight people are known to have suffered injuries, two of which are believed to be very serious. As of 3pm, no fatalities have been reported.
