A Gordon County jailor was arrested for Animal Cruelty today after testifying in a hearing in Magistrate Court. Donna Asherbranner, age 49, was taken into custody along with James M. Asherbranner, age 55, both of Nickelsville Highway, Resaca, and Monique Headrick, age 50, of Hufstetler Road, Resaca. All three were charged 1 count of Animal Cruelty. An investigation was initiated several days ago by the County Animal Shelter and the state Department of Agriculture’s Equine Division regarding allegations of the mistreatment of horses. The offense is alleged to have taken place at 4320 Nickelsville Highway on January 11, 2013. The three defendants were booked into the jail and released on their own recognizance on instructions from the Magistrate Court. The allegations are not related to Asherbranner’s official duties. Asherbranner, who has been employed as a jailor since 2009, was suspended pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
