Sheriff’s Detectives Arrest 2 Local Men in Calhoun for Drug Trafficking
Near 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, Sheriff’s detectives were “tailing” a suspected drug trafficker near Interstate 75 and State Route 53 when they followed a suspicious automobile into the outlet mall parking lot. The detectives observed a transaction and then, along with uniformed deputy sheriffs, approached 2 men near their vehicles in the parking lot. One of the men, subsequently identified as David Chester, age 26, of Calhoun, Georgia, fled on foot across a right-of-way fence and then across Interstate 75, followed closely by a senior member of the Sheriff”s staff. Chester made it across all 6 lanes of heavy traffic and ran into the wooded area on the other side but was apprehended and returned to the scene. The second suspect, identified as Terry Scott, age 32, of Calhoun, Georgia, was arrested without incident. Detectives recovered nearly a quarter pound of methamphetamine, and several thousand dollars in cash. Chester, who is currently on probation, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Hindering Peace Officers. Scott, who was on parole for drug trafficking, was charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, and Sale/Distribution of Methamphetamine.
